Oh, Phoebe, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways..
You gave us the most elegant, thoughtful and precise clothes ever, but your genius lies much deeper. With you, it was always the gesture, the tiny detail, the intelligence in the way presenting said clothes, that made all the difference in the way we looked at our wardrobe and ourselves.
Phoebe Philo not only changed the way we want to dress now, she changed our attitude and our poise as well. We wear our bags squashed under our arms or clasped to our bosoms, dresses over wide-legged pants, midnight blue with black, flowing long cuffs, coats thrown over our shoulders just so.

I want to wear girlish straw hats with boyish baggy pantsuits in winter, fringed dresses dragging nonchalantly through the dirt of a nondescript-but-beautiful Paris street, crinkled satin in the evening, vanilla with black, giant plaids clasped under my arm, and I won´t stop searching for some finely woven tulle flares to wear under dresses and rolled-up men´s pants, ever.
Because of Phoebe I unearthed the only lipstick I own, a coral red shade, and everything I wear seems elevated by this tiny touch of color to a new ever-so-slightly-kinky femininity.
Layering rules, as do sneakers worn with the most beautiful, the most precious of dresses.
The shoes! Don´t get me started on the shoes! I want them all. Ballerinas with stacked heels, tassled loafers, white cone-heeled pumps, furry Birkenstocks, the lots.. Sometimes you might see a Celine shoe and think, How bloody awful, then find yourself two weeks later frantically, desperately trailing the racks at Zara just to find something similar because you NEED them. That´s Phoebe´s magic.
Phoebe also sparked a major interest in jewellery, though not the usual kind. I want arms stacked with bracelets, tiny knot finger rings, chunky earrings, and I live through a major love affair with baroque pearls, which led me to look at lots of Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun paintings.

I want a scooped neckline, draped khaki trenchcoats, white sequins as daywear, I want marble parquet flooring, green foliage, bunches of flowers running along my sideboard. I want to be the Céline woman who juggles the demanding job, four kids, looking nonchalantly fabulous while doing it. Modern and empowering glamour galore. We already miss you, Phoebe.
