This, darlings, was my first collection that I launched, and my last at the same time, and is therefore a great example for the kind of underachiever that I am. Unfortunately, Barneys had to find that out when they wanted to place an order.
I named the darn thing "Sweet Apocalypse" (oh, the irony!), put together a little portfolio, sent it to some magazines that I liked, and got good press, which just proves that the fashion system was in constant search of something new, no matter the quality. Obviously, people had much more money back then.
And then Barneys called and wanted to place an order with me. Unfortunately, for me, not them, they reached me in the middle of a break-up from someone who I would like to call He Who Must Not Be Named. Sobbing and sniveling I told them that I just got my heart broken, and would under no circumstances be able to care about production, they could call me in a few months when I would feel better, bye. Anyone surprised that they never did? (I was..)
And that, darlings, is the reason why Pierre Bergé called Hedi Slimane instead of me, who in turn ruined the House of Yves Saint Laurent for years to come. It´s true. So sad.
